Israel's warrior King

Here Habakkuk sees God's judgment on the wicked in the end times.

 Habakkuk 3:3-6 ESV

God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His splendor covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. His brightness was like the light; rays flashed from his hand; and there he veiled his power. Before him went pestilence,
and plague followed at his heels. He stood and measured the earth; he looked and shook the nations; then the eternal mountains were scattered; the everlasting hills sank low. His were the everlasting ways.

He sees God Himself coming from Teman, this is Jesus Who is God, marching through the land. So, we know this is right after Jesus returned, He just touched down on the planet. All eyes are on Him. This also means this is after we have been raptured because we will be raptured at the blast of the 7th trumpet judgment. We might be watching Jesus from the air or even be marching behind Him with the angels.

1 Corinthians 15:51-52 ESV

Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

His glory fills the sky and everyone who have prayed for Him to come back, praises Him! Jesus is bright as light, rays like lightning flashes out of His hands as He releases His power. The plague and burning coals (KJV) are traveling with him through the land. This is how Jesus will punish His enemies at His second coming. This reminds me of:

Zecheriah 12:4 ESV

On that day, declares the Lord, I will strike every horse with panic, and its rider with madness. But for the sake of the house of Judah I will keep my eyes open, when I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.

Isaiah saw a similar scene:

Isaiah 63:1-3 ESV

Who is this who comes from Edom, in crimsoned garments from Bozrah, he who is splendid in his apparel, marching in the greatness of his strength? “It is I, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save.” Why is your apparel red, and your garments like his who treads in the winepress? “I have trodden the winepress alone and from the peoples no one was with me; I trod them in my anger and trampled them in my wrath; their lifeblood spattered on my garments and stained all my apparel.

Bozrah is about 10 to 20 miles from Teman. Jesus is traveling on the earth after His return, from Teman and Bozrah, towards Jerusalem. This is why I don't think Jesus will land in Jerusalem at His return. Bozrah is in modern day Jordan. While He is traveling to Jerusalem, He is releasing judgment on His enemies! Jesus is seen as Israel's mighty warrior King, the Pestilence and plague are personified as two war heroes going to war with the King as in biblical times.

Habakkuk 3:9-13

You stripped the sheath from your bow, calling for many arrows.  Selah You split the earth with rivers. The mountains saw you and writhed; the raging waters swept on; the deep gave forth its voice; it lifted its hands on high. The sun and moon stood still in their place at the light of your arrows as they sped, at the flash of your glittering spear. You marched through the earth in fury; you threshed the nations in anger. You went out for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the house of the wicked, laying him bare from thigh to neck. Selah

Here we see all of creation responding to the Lord's power as He comes back to defeat His enemies. Jesus marches through the Land in fury. He finally had enough of evil people persecuting the righteous and innocent. Jesus comes to save Israel and all who has been anointed with the Holy spirit, from the armies of the antichrist.

Look at Habakkuk's response to what He sees about God's judgment:

Habakkuk 3:1-2

A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth. O Lord, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.

First, He responds by saying that he heard what God planned to do and admits that he is afraid, then he asks God to remember mercy in His wrath. We should pray the same!

Habakkuk3:16

I hear, and my body trembles; my lips quiver at the sound; rottenness enters into my bones; my legs tremble beneath me. Yet I will quietly wait for the day of trouble to come upon people who invade us.

Then He says that his body trembles, rottenness enters his bones. This is how terrifying God's wrath will be on the wicked, but he doesn't stay in a place of fear. He says he will wait quietly, in peace for this day because he knows God's wrath is not going to come on him but, on his enemies, those who invade Israel.

I love how the King James puts it: "I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble" Habakkuk faced the fear and overcame it so that he could be in a place of rest when it happens. (What he saw was partially fulfilled in 586 Bc and 539Bc) I believe, this is why God gave us more that 150 chapters about the end times, so that we can prepare ourselves and overcome fear before it happens and we can be at peace while the world is in fear. Then we can be a light in the darkness and help other people in that time. The Bible promises that there will be people who understands what's happening and they will teach many others.

Jeremiah 23:19-20 ESV

Behold, the storm of the Lord! Wrath has gone forth, a whirling tempest; it will burst upon the head of the wicked. The anger of the Lord will not turn back until he has executed and accomplished the intents of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it clearly.

Daniel 11:33 KJV

And they that understand among the people shall instruct many.
